The Unforgettable Experience
In my first year at Monash University, I had the opportunity to become a leader to meet a group of 6 Japanese exchange students who had come to study in Australia for one semester. It was an incredible experience where I had the pleasure to showcase all the special things about Monash University, including its academic excellence, outstanding facilities, and commitment to international education.
My experience
It was humbling and fascinating to hear about their experiences studying in Japan and how they compared to the education they were receiving at Monash. I was also able to expand my network with other groups of Japanese students, which was incredibly valuable in terms of broadening my understanding of different cultures and ways of thinking.

What skills have I learned?
Leadership & interpersonal communication skills
Participating in this program provided me with a valuable opportunity to develop my leadership and interpersonal communication skills. As the main point of contact for information and support, I was responsible for maintaining positive relationships between the students in my group. Through this experience, I learned how to effectively communicate, motivate and guide my team towards achieving our goals.
Organisation skills
The program also allowed me to hone my organizational abilities by planning and executing various activities such as games, trivia, and catering services for the group. This hands-on experience equipped me with the ability to manage logistics and streamline interactions effectively, ensuring a seamless experience for all involved.
The unforgettable moments
Overall, this program served as a great learning experience for me, helping me to acquire important skills that will be valuable both in my personal and professional life. I would love to meet my Japanese friends again in the future, whether they are coming back to Monash as part of their studies or simply returning to recall the moments we had together.
