A Life-long Learning Process
It has been a year since I joined Bowens.
If you ask me whether it's challenging, absolutely. If you ask me whether it's fun, certainly. If you ask me whether I have learned something valuable, the answer is yes, definitely.
Here are my two biggest insights after working full-time at Bowens, the market leader in timber and building supplies in Australia.
The concept of intrinsic motivation and discipline
I once read an article from Second Nature, highlighting that "intrinsic motivation and discipline are the winning combinations for achieving goals".
Intrinsic motivation and discipline are the winning combinations for achieving goals.
Intrinsic motivation is when we decide to do or work on something because it’s fun, enjoyable, and satisfying.
Discipline is the ability to behave and work in a regular and controlled manner.
Therefore, being disciplined and intrinsically motivated for every element at work helps me to ensure the tasks will be done in a high quality and sufficient manner. It also turns out that I do the job because I enjoy pursuing it.
The implementation of the EPIC Fun values
Bowens has five core values: Excellence, Pride, Integrity, Care and Fun.
These values make me realise that Good Enough is not Enough, we should be proud of what we have achieved and never ignore the commitment to doing the right thing.
It is also important to take care of our community and enjoy everything we do.
In conclusion, I have seen myself growing and developing drastically since I joined Bowens. I am excited to see what the next 1 year hold in store for me.
