Why did I choose Bowens?

The Company That Values Diversity

In early 2022, I began working at Bowens, before graduating from Monash University. If you read my previous blog, "What have I learned after one year working at Bowens", you would have seen how much I've improved professionally and personally. And today, let me tell you a bit about my great employer that I am lucky to be part of.

Bowens is a fourth-generation family-owned business in Australia that was established in 1894. With more than 1,000 employees, Bowens aims to help Australians build better by supplying quality timber and building supplies.

What impresses me the most about Bowens is the high employee retention and satisfaction rates it has. Many employees have been with the company for over a decade, two decades, or even more than 60 years.

Career Development

By understanding that choosing the right employer is crucial for one's career, Bowens has provided me with numerous opportunities to learn, grow, and improve every day.

Thanks to the Marketing and eCommerce team's support, I've been able to expand my digital marketing knowledge and expertise, including writing effective copies for social and landing pages, learning about builders' favourite topics on social media, and preparing for the two biggest events in the building industry (i.e., Bowens Expo and Women in Trade).

As our director, John Bowen, says, "Be the best at the basics" to continue embracing excellence.

Team Culture

The team culture at Bowens is another significant factor that sets it apart. Collaboration and communication are highly valued, making it an active work environment where I feel my contributions are heard and considered. My biggest takeaway after two years of working at Bowens is the importance of teamwork.

Choosing an employer is a personal decision that varies from person to person. I'm grateful to be a part of the Bowens team and to continue growing every day. As someone once said, "Your commitment has been exemplary, and your hard work is an inspiration to everyone around you".
